Humel, Swimmer Of The Year; Reiswig Repeats As Diver Of The Year

San Jose, Calif.----- Colleen Humel and Cari Reiswig, two members of the San Jose State University women's swimming and diving team to set school records during the season, were named "Swimmer of the Year" and "Diver of the Year" at the team's annual awards banquet.

Humel broke the San Jose State record in the 100 back at the Pac-12 Invitational with a 53.04 time. At the Mountain West Championships, she finished fifth in the 100 and 200 backstrokes to earn all-conference honors. She now has four all-conference honors in her first three seasons at San Jose State.

Reiswig set a school record in each of the three diving events, 1-meter, 3-meter and platform, during the 2016-17 season. She was eighth in the 1-meter, fifth in the 3-meter and fourth on the platform at the Mountain West Championships to earn all-conference honors in each event. The junior from G went on to the NCAA Zone E Championships and placed 17th in the 1-meter and 21st in the 3-meter dives. This year's recognition is her third consecutive team "Diver of the Year" award.

Reiswig, a humanities major, also shared the team's Scholar-Athlete award with junior Taylor Lehr, an applied mathematics major for the second year in a row.

Distance freestyle specialist Allyson Fellows was named the team's "Most Improved" and received the award for "Performance of the Year" for her swims in the 1650 free and the 400 individual medley at the Mountain West Championships. Fellows scored points in the 1650 free with her 13th place finish and moved into the San Jose State all-time list in the 400 IM with her swim at the conference championship.

Freshman Kate Hanf was named Rookie of the Year and senior co-captain Lisa Ellis received The Spartan Award. For Ellis, she received The Spartan Award for her personification of the classic Spartan.

Brenna Bushey, Brittany Heng and Lehr were named team captains for the 2017-18 season.
