SJSU Baseball Signs Seven In 2019 Class

SAN JOSE, Calif.  – SJSU baseball signed seven players as part of their 2019 class, head coach Brad Sanfilippo announced on Saturday.
 
"I am very excited about our first class for Spartan Baseball," Sanfillipo said. "This is a great class that is balanced with experience, maturity, youth and athleticism. We expect this class to have a huge impact on our program as we lay the foundation to consistently compete at the highest level in the Mountain West.  Recruiting Coordinator Eddie Cornejo and Assistant Coach Tyler LaTorre worked very hard to put together a balanced class with high-quality student-athletes."
 
Corey Sanchez, a left-handed pitcher and outfielder from Murrieta Valley High School in Murrieta, California, was an All-Southwestern League First Team selection and a 2018 Preseason Underclass Honorable Mention All-American by Perfect Game. Sanchez has a high school career batting average of .283 with 28 hits, 16 RBI and 23 runs scored. On the mound, the 5-9 prospect has a 3.00 lifetime ERA.
 
Right-handed pitcher and infielder Dalton Bowling is another prospect that brings a lot of accolades with him to the bay by way of John F. Kennedy High School in Fremont, California. Bowling is a three-time First Team Mission Valley All-League selection and was the 2018 Mission Valley League MVP. Bowling was also selected to the All-Bay Area Second Team in 2017 and 2018.
 
Playing primarily third base, Bowling is a .378 lifetime hitter with 87 hits, 61 RBI, 21 2Bs, 4 3Bs, 8 HRs and 57 runs scored in his three seasons of high school ball. He also holds a career on-base percentage of .460 and slugging percentage of .608. Browning has also swiped 31 bases, including 11 last season. Additionally, he holds a 1.98 career ERA with a 13-3 record on the mound.
 
A junior college transfer from Cosumnes River, right-handed pitcher Josh Caldwell started 10 games last season and finished with a 3-5 record and 4.72 ERA.
 
Infielder Michael Carnazzo joins the Spartans from Monterey, California. Carnazzo was named First Team All-League last season after batting .447 and stealing 12 bases. He drove in 15 runs with 38 hits and scored 31 runs.
 
Lane Field is a product of Rocklin, California, and joins SJSU from American River College where he batted .341 with 45 hits, 25 RBI and scored 16 runs last season and was selected to the Big Eight All-Conference Team. As a senior at Whitney High School, the infielder batted .402 with 15 doubles and finished his high school career as a lifetime .414 hitter
 
Jonathan Wiltfang was a First Team All-Western South Conference selection last season at Cuesta College after going 6-0 in conference and leading the team with nine wins and 60 strikeouts while finishing the season with a 4.02 ERA. The right-hander was 9-2 on the mound in 22 appearances.
 
Local boy Trevor Allen from Los Gatos, California is a three-time All-League selection as a right-handed pitcher, garnering first team honors in 2016 and 2017 and second team honors last season. Allen held a 2.30 ERA last season going 5-1 in 14 appearances. He also batted .310 and drove in 13 runs.
