Final Stats

Fort Collins, Colo. --- The San José State men's basketball team was in a one-point game midway through the second half at Colorado State, but things changed in a flash and the Rams ran away with a 90-79 Mountain West win inside Moby Arena.

Keith Fisher III had a career-high 23 points for the Spartans, and Noah Baumann added a career-high 16 points. But it was one play in the second half which the game hinged in CSU's direction.

Colorado State (11-16, 4-10 MW) held a 60-59 lead with 8:47 to play in the second half when the Spartans got a stop and the defensive rebound. But a split-second after the rebound was secured Jaycee Hillsman took one step and was whistled for an offensive foul, his fourth personal.

Instead of possession and a chance to take the lead for the first time, CSU got the ball back and banged a 3-pointer. On the next play San José State (3-20, 0-12 MW) committed a turnover leading to a CSU fast-break layup plus the foul. With the fans on their feet SJSU called timeout trailing 66-59 with 8:16 to go.

The first play out of the break was another Spartan turnover giving way to another Colorado State 3-pointer. With that, in a matter of just 42 seconds Colorado State increased its lead from one to 10. It was all Rams the rest of the way.

Baumann nailed a 3-pointer that made it 73-64 with 6:32 left, but Anthony Bonner and Nico Carvacho answered right back with consecutive layups to continue CSU's run. The lead grew as large as 17 points on a Raquan Mitchell layup with 3:30 to play.

Carvacho was everywhere for Colorado State and he finished with a game-high 26 points and grabbed 20 rebounds. Bonner added 19 points, Mitchell scored 11 points and Prentiss Nixon had 10 points for the Rams.

It was an exciting first half when the two teams combined to hit 13 three-point baskets. Ryan Welage scored 13 of his 16 points in the first period and hit a pair of 3-pointers that were answers to Colorado State makes from downtown. The Spartans trailed 46-40 at halftime.

With his 16 points Welage passed Johnnie Skinner and Terry Cannon on SJSU's all-time scoring list, moving up into eighth place with 1,144 career points.

San José State's next game is Wednesday night back home against Fresno State. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m. (PT).
