Davis, Calif.—The winning streak extends to five matches for the San José State women's tennis team as the team won 6-1 at UC Davis Friday afternoon.
The Spartans won the doubles point as the second and third doubles teams recorded victories. Irena Muradyan and Tamara Culibrk won the first doubles match 6-3, for San José State, and it again came down to the second doubles match to determine which team would win the point. Alba Pedrero Galindo and Lara Marco Mas won 6-4 to secure the point.
The five Spartan singles points each came in straight sets. Rozalina Youseva won 6-2, 6-4 in the second position. Raquel Villan Pereira won her match 6-3, 6-3, followed by Pedrero Galindo at 6-1, 6-1. Jovana Babic won at number six 7-6 (7-4), 6-3, and Muradyan staying undefeated in singles play with a 6-4, 6-4 win.
In recent history, no Spartan women's tennis team has started the season 5-0. Two teams have won five consecutive matches during the season (2017 & 2018). The 2015 team won six straight matches during season, while the 2013 team won seven straight. The 2012 team won 12 consecutive matches in the middle of the season.
"This was another solid team effort with the away-match win today," said Spartan head coach Chad Skorupka. "We are looking forward to playing our next six matches on our home courts."
San José State hosts Santa Clara next Friday, March 12, at noon at the Spartan Tennis Complex.
