San José State University volleyball player Haylee Nelson, women's golfer Kajsa Arwefjäll and men's soccer player Willy Miranda are the Student-Athletes of the Month for March, presented by BLR Sign Systems.
Nelson led the Spartan volleyball team to a 5-3 record for the month including a 3-2 win over Colorado State at home. She averaged 4.10 kills and 2.30 digs per set for the month. Twice, she was named the MW Offensive Player of the Week for her performances. Nelson recorded 20 or more kills in two home wins – 23 versus New Mexico and 22 versus Colorado State. She had double-doubles in four matches and added 17 aces and six blocks during the month.
Arwfejäll finished in the top-five in three of her four tournaments played. She tied for third twice and finished fourth in another. Arwefjäll led the team with a 71.83 stroke average for the month. She shot a 67 in the second round of the MountainView Collegiate, the 12th Spartan in program history to shoot a 67. She recorded seven rounds of par or better including three rounds in the 60s. She tied for third at the Gunrock Invitational and Juli Inkster at Meadow Club Invitational. Arwefjäll was named the Mountain West Women's Golfer of the Week twice during the month.
Miranda led the men's soccer team with eight points in four matches, scoring four goals in the month. He tallied the program's first hat trick sine 2015 with his three-goal performance in San José State's 4-0 shutout at California Baptist. He leads the team in goals (4) and game-winning goals and helped lead the Spartans to one of their best seasons in program history.
