Thomas Rips Two Home Runs in Spartans Win Over Utah State

LOGAN, Utah – Aubrie Thomas hit two home runs to lead San José State softball (17-27, 6-14 MW) in a 7-6 win in the second game of this final three-game weekend series against Utah State (22-26, 5-15 MW) on Friday from LaRee & LeGrand Johnson Field in Logan, Utah.

The Spartan bats stayed hot in this series coming from behind twice in the top of the fourth and sixth innings of this game to steal a win from the Aggies. The offense had five hitters with multi-hit games and tied their season high for hits with 13 in the game. In addition to A. Thomas’ two home runs, Reina Zermeno hit the go ahead two-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to reclaim the lead for the second and final time for the Spartans. Mia Reynolds pitching for the second straight day would come in and shut the door against her old team to secure the win. 

  • A. Thomas finished 2-for-4 with two home runs, four RBIs and two runs scored.
  • A. Thomas’ four RBIs ties her single-game season high that she set in yesterday's game.
  • A. Thomas’ two round trippers also set a new single-game season high for her.   
  • A. Thomas' two home runs makes three in her last two games and her third of the season overall for the junior.
  • A. Thomas is 5-for-8, has knocked in eight RBIs and scored four runs in her last two games.
  • Zermeno went 2-for-3 with the go ahead home run, single, two RBIs and one run scored.
  • Zermeno’s home run was her sixth of the season, she currently leads the clubhouse in that category. 
  • Haley Reeve was 3-for-4 with a double, two singles and a run scored. 
  • Reeve’s three hits tied her single-game season high. 
  • Malia Luna went 2-for-2 with two singles and two walks. 
  • Luna’s two hits and two walks set a new single-game season high in both categories for the redshirt junior.
  • Ahmiya Noriega went 2-for-3 with two singles and a run scored.  
  • Korie Thomas went 1-for-4 with a single and a run scored.
  • Shay McDowell went 1-for-4 with a single.
