SAN JOSE, Calif. - San José State women's basketball will host its home opener on Wednesday evening when local rival Santa Clara pays a visit to the Provident Credit Union Events Center. Action is set to kick off at 6:00 p.m. and will be available to watch live on the Mountain West Network. 

Opening Tip

  • Senior Cydni Lewis leads the Mountain West Conference in rebounds per game with 11.3 and in defensive rebounds per game with 10.0
  • Lewis is also fifth in the conference in blocks with five (1.67 per game)
  • Ella Ogier's .929 free throw percentage is good for third in the MW. The Omaha transfer is also second in offensive rebounds with 3.0 per game. 
  • Ogier leads the team in points per game (12.3 ppg)
  • San José State boasts an impressive .914 free throw percentage that leads the conference


Last Time Out

  • The Spartans lost a back-and-fourth battle at Sacramento State, 75-65, on Sunday afternoon
  • Lewis earned her her second career double double (14 points, 12 rebounds), and first of the season
  • Ellie Boni led the Spartans with 15 points, adding seven rebounds, four assists and two steals
  • Four Spartans notched double figures in the loss- Boni (15), Lewis (14), Ogier (13), and Deja Ross (11)
  • San José State shot 38% from three and was a perfect 4-4 from the charity stripe
  • San José State lead by double digits heading into the final frame, but the Hornets' offensive explosion propelled them to a win


Scouting Report: The Broncos

  • Santa Clara won its first two matchups of the season by 10-plus points and is averaging 82 ppg
  • Lindsey VanAllen leads the team in scoring with 17.0 ppg and 4.0 apg
  • The Broncos return all but one player from their 2020-21 roster and 82-percent of their scoring offense
  • Wednesday night will be the first road test for Santa Clara
  • Bill Carr enters his sixth season at the helm
