SAN JOSE, Calif.—The San Jose State beach volleyball team opened the 2022 season Friday afternoon by splitting a pair of duals at Spartan Beach, defeating Ottawa, 5-0, but falling to Concordia University Irvine, 5-0.
- Four of the five matches against Ottawa were straight-set winners.
- Alyssa Sugai and Kacy Hele needed three sets to win 21-9, 19-21, 15-11.
- Against CUI, Abby Alvarez and Siena Brewster were the only pair to play three sets, losing the first 21-16, winning 21-18 before falling in the third set 15-12.
- The Spartans will play two more duals on Saturday – 9 a.m. versus Utah and 3 p.m. versus Santa Clara. All duals will be played at Spartan Beach.
