BERKELEY, Calif.—The San José State beach volleyball team opened the season Friday at No. 8 California with a dual against the Bears (L, 5-0) and an exhibition dual against American River (W, 5-0).
- Jaida Ward and Jada Hall, playing in the top flight, played close with the Cal pair, losing 21-19, 21-17.
- Every Spartan pair won in straight sets against American River.
- Shirley Morrison and Anna Salmon allowed just six points in a set in their 21-6, 21-12 win.
UP NEXT – The Spartans play four matches at the Battle of the Bay hosted by Stanford on March 1 & 2, with matches against Saint Mary’s at 8 a.m. and UC Davis at noon on the first day, and Oregon at 2 p.m. and State at 6 p.m. on the second day.
