San Jose, Calif.—Despite the shortened season due to restrictions throughout the pandemic, the San José State women's gymnastics made the most of their only home meet of the season by scoring a 194.375, inside the Provident Credit Union Event Center on Wednesday.
A different Spartan gymnast led the team on each event. Starting the meet down a gymnast as Tia Gin was injured in warm-ups, Cameron Kelperis started the Spartans with a 9.775 on vault to begin the meet. Lauren Macpherson added a 9.775 in her home debut on vault.

Moving to bars, the team scored a 48.750, led by Emma Milne with a season-best 9.825. Macpherson added a 9.800, and Mercedez Sanchez had a season-high 9.75.

The Spartans continued to show improvement on beam and did not count a fall in the team's 48.575. Jada Mazury led the team with a 9.875, tying her career-best on beam. Milne added a 9.850, with Keperis at 9.650, Jasmine Henley at 9.625 and Macpherson at 9.575.

Finally, on floor, the Keperis scored a career-best 9.825 to help the Spartans score a 48.750. Macpherson added a 9.800, followed by Mazury at 9.750 and Antonia Marquez at 9.700.

"I am really proud of our team today and the way we performed at home especially with the adversity of Tia not being able to perform today.," said Spartan head coach Joanne Bowers. "We are learning to deal with adversity in many ways and everyone just keeps trying their best and never gives up."
