SAN JOSE, Calif. - San José State Athletics and NBC Sports Bay Area and California will team up to broadcast three SJSU basketball games, announced by Director of Athletics Jeff Konya on Monday. The Spartans' men's basketball game against Air Force this Tuesday will air on NBC Sports California at 7 p.m., while two women's basketball games will be televised on NBC Sports Bay Area on Saturday, Jan. 29 against Boise State (1 p.m.) and Wednesday, Feb. 23 versus Air Force at 11 a.m. PT.
"We are located in a top-six media market and it's important for our brand to be visible as we build and showcase our programs," said Konya. "This partnership with NBC Sports Bay Area is an important one that enhances our brand across the state of California and provides opportunity for our student-athletes, recruits and fans to support the Spartans."
This will be the first time in SJSU history that three basketball games will be televised on the regional sports network. Joining the broadcast team for the three games will be San José State alum Marc Spears, who has spent the last 27 years as a sports writer including 23 covering the NBA and four covering college basketball and football at Arkansas, Kentucky and Louisville. Spears played college basketball at Foothill College from 1990-92, University of District Columbia in 1992-93 and transferred to SJSU to play his final season before a knee injury sidelined him for the year. Spears graduated from SJSU with a bachelor's degree in print journalism in 1995.
