Spartans Fall in Midweek Tilt to Cal Poly

SAN JOSE, Calif. – Jake McCoy went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs to lead San José State baseball (10-6, 0-0 MW) in an 18-4 loss against Cal Poly (10-6, 3-0 Big West) in a midweek game from Excite Ballpark Tuesday evening.

The game began with both teams scoring a run in the first inning, but Cal Poly pulled ahead in the second with an explosive eight-run rally, setting the tone for the night. San José State responded with a two-run home run from McCoy in the third inning, but Cal Poly continued to extend its lead with a five-run third and four-run fourth.

The Spartans showcased resilience at the plate, with JC Osorio-Agard leading the team with three hits and Drew Giannini contributing an RBI double. However, Cal Poly’s powerful lineup, including home runs from Jack Collins, Dylan Kordic (2), and Jake Downing, proved to be too much to overcome.

Despite the loss, San José State’s pitching staff continued to battle as Tyson Pereria and Hunter Hanes provided strong relief innings to hold Cal Poly scoreless in the final frames.
