CRESWELL, Ore.Zubair Firdaus fired a 5-under 67 to pace the San José State men’s golf team during the first round of the Mountain West Championship at Emerald Valley Golf Club on Friday. The Spartans finished the day in third place with a team score of 9-under.

The Spartans showcased consistency and resilience throughout the day, positioning themselves well heading into the weekend.

  • Firdaus, who carded seven birdies, sits tied for third individually after the opening round.
  • Firdaus was one of four Spartans to finish strong, with multiple team members recording birdies on their final hole of the day.
  • Avinash Iyer and Ivan Barahona each shot a 2-under 70, putting them in a tie for 16th place.
  • Keshav “KC” Mungali turned in an even-par 72 to sit tied for 28th, while Jed Dy posted a 1-over 73 and is tied for 35th.
