Reynolds One-Hitter Propels Spartans Past Boise State

SAN JOSE, Calif. – Mia Reynolds threw a complete game one hit shutout while Reina Zermeno had two hits and Ahmiya Noriega had a big 2-RBI single to lead San José State softball (20-24, 7-10 MW) in a thrilling 3-1 win over Boise State (30–18, 8-9 MW) in game one of this three game series from Spartan Softball Complex on Friday evening.

Reynolds was stellar for the Spartans in the circle, tossing a complete game while allowing just one hit and striking out four. She faced only 24 batters across seven innings, showcasing command and composure to keep the Broncos off-balance all night.

After four scoreless innings, the Spartans broke through in the bottom of the fifth inning. With runners in scoring position, Jules Ronquillo’s fielder’s choice tied the game, and Noriega delivered the decisive blow with a big two-RBI single to put SJSU on top for good.

Zermeno led the offense with a two-hit performance, including her 10th double of the season, while Shay McDowell, Aubrie Thomas, Haley Reeve, and Noriega each added hits.

Boise State’s lone run came in the fifth inning on an RBI bunt by Hollie Farmer following a triple by Megan Lake. However, Reynolds and the Spartans quickly regrouped to shut the door.
