Thanks for coming to the "Hail Spartans" reunion making it the most successful tailgate hosted by the Order of Sparta! It certainly beat the free hot dogs and beer offered at our usual tailgate before each home game. The Order of Sparta provides San Jose State University's alumni athletes and coaches a connection to Spartan Athletics, to each other, and to current student-athletes.
It was so rewarding to see the smiles and laughter from teammates reminiscing and embracing with "old" friends. All of the hard work and planning by the Order of Sparta board and the Athletics Department to provide these types of events for you, our former athletes, was well worth the effort. You are part of what this athletic department is today. You are the past that gives SJSU Athletics the foundation to build their future. As the saying goes, "once a Spartan, always a Spartan". Now is the time to join with your fellow Spartans to ensure a strong future for its athletic teams. Join the Order of Sparta and help us continue the traditions that make this our University.
About the Order of Sparta:
The Order of Sparta is the organization of alumni SJSU student-athletes and coaches. It represents all intercollegiate sports. The Order of Sparta administers the SJSU Sports Hall of Fame, provides special events for current and alumni student-athletes, and publishes a membership directory.
San José State University takes tremendous pride in the outstanding tradition of intercollegiate athletic competition that has been a part of our institution for over 100 years. Since the first team took the field in 1890 (baseball), thousands of individuals have proudly represented the University as student-athletes and coaches. Each has contributed to the Spartan Pride of today.
The Division of Intercollegiate Athletics created the Order of Sparta in 1999 for all SJSU former student-athletes and coaches. Membership is open to everyone who has coached or been a member of any team, past or present, sponsored by the athletic department. Graduation from SJSU is not a requirement.
The annual membership fee is $75. All monies are used for the enhancement and operation of The Order. The organization is not a fund-raiser for the athletic department. Our first mailing in 1999 was sent to 1000 former student-athletes, coaches, and athletic support staff. There are many more who qualify for membership. Your help to expand our database is welcomed. Tell us where you and other former athletes are located.
