Nashville, Tenn.-----The solid San José State football core of returning starters was recognized again with five Spartans named to Athlon's preseason Mountain West All-Conference first team.
Wide receiver Noel Grigsby, offensive guard Nicholas Kaspar, defensive tackle Travis Raciti, linebacker Keith Smith and defensive back Bené Benwikere are the five players selected by the Athlon staff writers as first-team picks. Raciti is the only non-senior in the quintet.
Overall, nine San José State players are on Athlon's teams of preseason all-star picks. Only Fresno State with 11 had more players on the magazine's list of 78 players. There was no distinction between schools in the Mountain or West divisions.
Quarterback David Fales and sophomore placekicker Austin Lopez are second-team choices. Punter Harrison Waid and Tyler Ervin as a kickoff return specialist are third-team selections.
