Travis Johnson Signs With The San Francisco 49ers

Santa Clara, Calif.-----Patience paid off for San José State University football's career leader in quarterback sacks and tackles for loss.

            Travis Johnson, one of four team captains on the 2012 Spartans that finished 21st in the final Associated Press and USA Today national polls, recently signed a free agent contract with the San Francisco 49ers.

            Johnson was credited with 32.0 quarterback sacks and 49.0 tackles for loss in his four seasons at San José State. He was the 2012 Western Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year, a second-team Capital One Academic All-America and a recipient of a National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society award.

            Johnson becomes the 13th San José State player on a National Football League roster (as of July 30) and the sixth undrafted free agent from the 2012 Spartans.

            San José State players on NFL rosters as of July 30 include wide receiver James Jones (Green Bay); safety Dwight Lowery, tight end Ryan Otten and running back De'Leon Eskridge (Jacksonville); cornerback Christopher Owens (Cleveland); defensive lineman Jarron Gilbert (Buffalo); defensive back Duke Ihenacho (Denver); cornerback Peyton Thompson (Atlanta); offensive lineman David Queseenberry (Houston); tight end Peter Tuitupou (Pittsburgh); cornerback Ronnie Yell (Arizona); and Travis Johnson (San Francisco).
