Tyler Ervin Named To Paul Hornung Award Watch List

Louisville, Ky.-----San Jose State University football's record-setting Tyler Ervin is one of 44 players named to the 2013 Paul Hornung Award Watch List.

The award, named after the Green Bay Packers legend, is awarded to the most versatile player in college football. Forty-four players are on the 2013 Watch List - four from the Mountain West Conference. The complete list is available at www.paulhornungaward.com.

Ervin is heading into his junior season as the one of the country's outstanding kickoff return specialists. In his first two seasons, his three kickoff returns for touchdowns are a San Jose State career record. He has a 25.7 yards per return career average.

The third-year Spartan from Colton, Calif., (Colton HS) also tops the team's preseason depth chart at a running back position. In strategic action the last two seasons, Ervin also scored touchdowns rushing (2) and receiving (1).

"The Paul Hornung Award Watch List for the upcoming season is an impressive group of players who excel at multiple positions to help their teams win, which is how I played the game," Hornung said in the Louisville Sports Commission's announcement. "It will be interesting to see which players excel during the season and emerge as the top choices of our selection committee."

Texas Roadhouse is the presenting sponsor of the Paul Hornung Award. College football fans of Ervin will have an opportunity to vote for him beginning in late September.

The Hornung Award is the second Watch List on which Ervin appears. Recently, he was named to the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) list for special teams players.
