Volleyball Picked Ninth In Mountain West Preseason Poll

Colorado Springs, Colo.--In its inaugural year playing in the Mountain West, the San José State women's volleyball team was selected ninth in the 2013 Preseason Coaches' Poll.

San Jose Staté returns four starters from last year's team that finished 14-16 and 9-9 in the Western Athletic Conference. First team All-WAC honoree Mary Alice O'Reilly returns for her junior season at middle blocker after leading the team in kills (342, 3.20 ps) and hitting at .344. Second team All-WAC setter Michaela Leonard returns for her sophomore campaign as she averaged 11.18 assists per set in 2012.

San Diego State garnered nine of 11 first-place votes to take the top spot in the poll. Colorado State was second with two first-place votes, followed by UNLV, Utah State, New Mexico, Fresno State, Boise State, Wyoming, the Spartans, Air Force and Nevada.

The Spartans open the 2013 schedule with three matches at the Tribe Invitational hosted by William & Mary. The team plays the host on Friday, August 30, and Northern Arizona and Campbell on Saturday, August 31. San Jose State's first home match will by Wednesday, September 11, against Eastern Washington inside The Event Center at 7 p.m.
