Brad Wick and Kelley Watson Named Cross Country Assistant Coaches

Aug. 9, 2013

Brad Wick and Kelley Watson, who combined to coach three conference championship teams and over 30 NCAA first-round qualifiers, accepted assistant coaching positions with the San José State men's and women's cross country and women's track programs. Head coach Jeff Petersmeyer made the announcement.

"Kelley Watson and Brad Wick are exciting additions to the staff at San José State," Petersmeyer said. "Both were very successful coaches in track and cross country last year. I'm very excited about the skills that these two will bring to our program going forward."

During five years as the head of Boise State's men's and women's cross country program (2008-12), Wick coached 11 first-team all-conference runners. He was the 2010 Western Athletic Conference (WAC) coach of the year after the Bronco men's team won its first championship in school history.

Under Wick's guidance 19 men's and women's cross country individuals were NCAA first-round qualifiers and four received All-American honors. Wick has also led Boise State's women's program to four consecutive NCAA Academic All-American Team Awards (2010-2013).

Wick's coaching experience dates back to 2005 when he spent three seasons as a volunteer assistant coach for the cross country team at the University of Minnesota while working on a master's degree.

The native of Elk River, Minn., received a master's degree in sports and exercise science in 2007. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in physical education from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in 2004.

Watson was Boise State's men's and women's assistant track coach from 2008 through the 2013 season. She worked directly with the sprinters and hurdlers and helped the men's indoor team to WAC titles in 2009 and 2011.

10 sprint and hurdle school records were broken with Watson as the assistant coach, and 12 student-athletes were NCAA first-round qualifiers.

At Boise State Watson also served as the director of operations for the track programs and headed the recruiting efforts for all sprinters and hurdlers. She served as the meet director when Boise State hosted the 2012 NCAA Indoor Championships.

The Milpitas, Calif., native graduated from CSU Northridge with a Bachelor of Arts in biology in 2005.
