San Luis Obispo, Calif. - The San Jose State men's soccer team allowed four goals before the 27th minute was complete en route to a 6-1 loss to the Cal Poly Mustangs on Sunday afternoon in Alex G. Spanos Stadium.
Cal Poly (4-2-0) got two goals from Matt LaGrassa (3:23 and 10:24) and single goals from Mackenzie Pridham (8:33) and Ari Lassiter (26:35) before Sam Croucher put the Spartans (0-4-1) on the board with a goal off a penalty kick in the 36th minute. It was the freshman from Derbyshire, England's first collegiate goal and the teams went to the half with San José State trailing 4-1.
In the second half the Mustangs added two more scores. They got a goal from George Malki (66:29) and Lassiter's second of the match, in the 82nd minute, for the final score of 6-1.
Spartan keeper Felix Petermann and Cal Poly's Wade Hamilton went the entire way. Petermann was credited with six saves in 12 shots on goal. Hamilton stopped two of the three shots that reached him.
San José State next takes the field on Thursday, September 19, welcoming the Santa Clara Broncos to Spartan Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
