Stanford, Calif. -- Jannik Ernst led the Spartans for the third consecutive race and San José State finished 10th out of 12 at the Stanford Invitational on Saturday morning.
Ernst, in his first season of competition, clocked a 26:35 on the 8K course and finished in 92nd place out of 243. Matthew Stephens was the second Spartan across the line in 142nd place with a time of 27:29. Ernst and Stephens have finished one-two for SJSU in each of the first three races in 2013.
Ben Branagh finished in 196th with a time of 28:28 and Nicholas Sherrell was 10 seconds behind in 199th. Garrick Chan rounded out the scorers for SJSU in 222nd place with a time of 29:24. As a team San José State scored 293.
Also competing for the Spartans: Samuel Ryan (29:41, 228th), and Alexander Selevos (29:47, 230th).
Stanford won the event with a team score of 25. The Cardinal's Erik Olson and Jim Rosa were the first individuals across the finish line in 24:25.
San José State's next race is the San Francisco State Invitational on October 11. The race takes place inside Golden Gate Park where the Spartans opened up the 2013 season at the USF Invitational at the end of August.
