San José State record: 1-3, 0-1 Mountain West. The Spartans have a three-game losing streak after a 40-12 defeat by Utah State on September 27 to open Mountain West play.
Hawai'i record: 0-4, 0-2 Mountain West. The Rainbow Warriors remained winless after a 42-37 conference loss to #25-Fresno State on September 28.
San José State-Hawai'i series: The series is tied, 17-17-1. The teams split the last two games with each team winning at home. San José State won the last meeting, 28-27, on October 14, 2011. Hawai'i's last win in the series was a 41-7 triumph on November 20, 2010. The Spartans last victory in Aloha Stadium was a 20-17 win on September 27, 2008. San José State is 11-11 in road games against Hawaii.

Third different time zone in three weeks:  The Spartans are in the midst of hop scotching through their early-season schedule. The Hawai'i game marks the third different time zone in three weeks. The travelogue started with the September 21 game against Minnesota in the Central Time Zone, continued with the September 27 Utah State home game, stops in Hawai'i and concludes with Colorado State in the Mountain Time Zone on October 12. San José State, San Diego State and Hawai'i are three Mountain West teams to play in four different time zones this season. San José State and Hawai'i (@UNLV, Colorado State, @Utah State and @Navy) are the two teams with four consecutive games in four different time zones.
Back-to-back 400-plus yards of total offense:  In San José State's last two games, the Spartans are averaging 461.5 yards of total offense. The Spartans had a season-high 486 yards at Minnesota (9/21) and followed up with 437 yards against Utah State (9/27). San José State is one of only two teams to gain at least 400 yards of total offense against Utah State this season. San José State's 486 yards of total offense in the Minnesota game is a season-high.
Ground game picks up: After averaging just 41.0 rushing yards per game at Stanford and at Minnesota, San José State rushed for 101 yards in the Utah State game (9/27). It was the second time this season the Spartans gained at least 100 rushing yards in a game. San José State's season-best is 142 yards in the Sacramento State win.
Keith Smith is a national leader: Linebacker Keith Smith is the national leader in total tackles per game in games played through September 28. The 17.8 per game average is 2.7 tackles per game more than Temple's Tyler Matakevich, second nationally at 15.0 tackles per game. Smith recorded the 18th double-digit tackle game of his career with 20 tackles against Utah State. He was credited with a career-high 21 stops in the September 21 game at #Minnesota. According to research provided by www.Stats.com, Smith is the only Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) player to have consecutive games of 20 more tackles in games played since 1998. (Note: The NCAA began collecting "official" statistics for tackles in 2000.)
Lopez ties FBS field goal record: Austin Lopez tied the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) record for most field goals made at the start of a career (23) in the Utah State game (9/27) when he made his first two attempts. Lopez, who shares the record with Notre Dame's David Ruffer (2009-10), missed a 42-yard attempt at the end of the second quarter to end his streak. Lopez's streak of 23 in a row over two seasons matches the fifth longest by a FBS player. His .958 conversion percentage is tops among active players.
Family ties:  Hawai'i long snapper Brodie Nakama is the son of San José State baseball head coach Dave Nakama.
