San Luis Obispo, Calif. - The San Jose State University women's soccer team took a season-high 15 shots but a hat trick by Elise Krieghoff, the nation's leading scorer, resulted in a 3-0 loss to Cal Poly on Friday, September 6.

"We had tons of chances and opportunities in the box," said Head Coach Jeff Leightman. "However, we were unable to capitalize on them and Elise Krieghoff was lethal for Cal Poly."

Early on, the Spartans (0-5) faced the wrath of Krieghoff, who entered the game with a Division I-best seven goals scored in three matches. In the sixth minute, the 2012 Big West Freshman of the Year, gave the Mustangs (4-0) a 1-0 lead when she sent the ball from 10 yards out to the right corner of Sarah Peplinski 's net.

Krieghoff got her second of the match for the 2-0 lead with 10 minutes left in the first half. She rocketed the ball to the right side of a diving Peplinski.

San Jose State generated several quality chances in the second half. But in the 87th minute, Krieghoff scored her 10th of the season, and third of the night, for the final 3-0 score.

Cal Poly held the match's shot advantage, 18-to-15. Kacey Gricius led the Spartans with a career-high five shots.

Peplinski made seven saves in goal for San Jose State as compared to Mustang Alyssa Giannetti's three.

The Spartans head to the state's capital on Sunday, September 8, to face Sacramento State at 3:30 p.m.
