Four Hitters Record Double-Digit Kills In 3-1 Win Over Air Force

San Jose, Calif.--Four Spartans recorded double-digit kills as the San José State volleyball team rallied to defeat Air Force, 3-1 (14-25, 25-21, 25-18, 25-23), Thursday night in a Mountain West match at The Event Center.

Mary Alice O'Reilly led the quartet of Spartan hitters in double-figure kills with 13 as she hit .600 for the match with 20 attempts and just one hitting error. She also led the Spartans in blocks with four, one solo and three assists.

Hanah Blume recorded her 11th double-double of the season with 12 kills and 14 digs in the match. Sarah Griest added 12 kills and hit .308 for the match with 26 attempts and just four errors. Lauren Jacobsen rounded out the quartet with 10 kills, seven digs and three blocks.

The Spartans dropped the first set, 25-14, as Air Force hit .316 and held San José State to -.138. The Falcons scored the final 10 points of the set to win.

San José State responded in the second set, hitting .303 and taking the lead for good at 17-16 on a Blume kill. O'Reilly put the ball away to give the team a 25-21 win. The third set found San José State dominating from the first point and winning 25-18. The team had its best hitting set at .481.

San José State controlled the fourth set from the first serve again. The Spartans led 23-19, but the Falcons scored four of the next five points to close to within one at 24-23. Tyanna Roy placed a ball away from the Air Force defenders to give the Spartans the 25-23 win and the match.

San José State continues at home this Saturday as the team hosts New Mexico in a Mountain West match at The Event Center. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
