El Paso, Texas - On a day when only two of the 16 team's competing in the Price Give 'Em Five Invitational were under par, the San José State men's golf team shot a workmen like 292 (+4) and finished in third place at 853 (-11) to wrap up its fall schedule.

"After this results, it's nice to see the hard work pay off the guys," said head coach John Kennaday. "We struggled at Cal (Alister MacKenzie Invitational) last week, but there were some very positive things that came out of that experience. We saw some of those things this week."

Cody Blick shot the low total for the team at the par 72, 7,307-yard Butterfield Trail Golf Club. After rounds of 69 and 67 on Friday, which placed him in a four-way tie atop the leaderboard, his one-under 71 got him to the clubhouse at nine-under (207) and in a tie for second place. It's his third top-2 result in four outings this year.

Today, he got out of the gate quickly with birdies at two and three and was two under when he reached the par 3 seventh, but a double bogey there and a bogey at nine put him at one over at the turn. Coming home he had seven pars and a pair of birdies to close out his tournament. This is the second tournament of the year that each of his rounds was under par.

Marcus Potter also entered the final round in a tie for first place. He birdied the second hole, but a quadruple bogey at four derailed his bid for a first collegiate title. He steadied himself with 11 straight pars, but back-to-back bogeys on 16 and 17 and a birdie on 18 gave him a four-over par 76, a 212 (-4) total and tie for 11th place. It is the best finish of his collegiate career.

Justin Estrada came into the final round in a tie for 32nd place and made the second biggest move on the team improving 13 places to finish in a tie for 19th. Teeing off on the third hole, he was even after nine with three birdies, three bogeys and three pars. His final nine holes included three more birdies and a couple of bogeys for a 71 (-1). With an even par 216 total, the 19th place finish is his best of the year.

Daniel Semmler was two under after four holes and then a spate of three bogeys in four holes dropped him at one-over par at the turn. His back nine highlight was an eagle on the par 5 520-yard 14th hole, but three more bogeys got him to the clubhouse at two-over (74) and he finished in a tie for 27th place (218). His 4.17 scoring average on the par 5s, was the best among the 88 competitors.

Landon Polterock improved 14 places on the leaderboard with an even par 72, moving from 44th to a tie for 30th place. Playing as an individual, he teed off on the 15th hole. He birdied three times in his first nine holes and again on his last hole of the day to record a second even par round of the tournament. His 219 (+3) total is one stroke off his low tournament of the year.

Felix Möesmang's final round was a 79 and his 238 total (+22) left him in a tie for 85th place. Despite the score, Saturday's round saw him card 12 pars and a birdie, for what is his steadiest round of the tournament.

Host UTEP's Martin Simonsen, entered the final round tied with Blick, Potter and New Mexico State's Pat Beyhan at the top of the leaderboard. He shot the low round of the day (four-under par 68) and earned individual medalist honors with a 204 (-12). Simonsen finished three shots clear of Blick, Northern Colorado's Steven Kupcho and Colorado's Yannik Paul.

The top of the team leaderboard didn't change from round two to three. New Mexico State, who slept on the lead, earned the team victory with a 28-under par 836 total. Colorado was second at 847 (-17) and the Spartans finished third.

San José State is done competing for the Fall. The team resumes play in early February at the Amer Ari Invitational in Waikoloa, Hawai'i.
