Oct. 4, 2013

Final Stats

San Jose, Calif. - Lupita Estrada handed the San Jose State University women's soccer team its first Mountain West win, a 1-0 victory over UNLV, with a goal scored in the 105th minute on Friday, October 4.

Estrada's fourth of the year for the Spartans (2-9-0, 1-2 MW) came at 104:39. Freshman Alexis Venegas sliced the ball from the far-side corner to Estrada, who was stationed in front of UNLV goalkeeper Kylie Wassell. After a scramble in front of the net, Estrada sent the ball flying over Wassell and into the back of the net for the final 1-0 score.

The Rebels (6-5-2, 1-2 MW) almost scored the match's first goal at the 27-minute mark, but starting goalkeeper Sarah Peplinski kept the score 0-0. Miranda Rawlings took her second corner kick of the night and the ball sailed into the box, but Peplinski leapt out of her net to punch it away and end the threat.

The Spartans tied for the most shots taken this season, outshooting UNLV, 15-10. Kareli Rodriguez led San Jose State with four shots.

Peplinski (1-5-0) made four saves in her first-career shutout. Wassell made seven saves, as her record fell to 5-5-2.

San Jose State returns to Spartan Stadium for a 1:00 p.m. Mountain West match versus Nevada.
