Louisville, Ky. - Five members of San Jose State University's 2013 Western Athletic Conference (WAC) champion softball club were named National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Scholar-Athletes for the 2012-13 school year, the association announced on Monday, October 7. Devin Caldwell, Michelle Cox, Amanda Pridmore, Marissa Toy and Casey Watt were honored.
The award is given to a Division I, Division II, Division III, NAIA, junior college or high school softball player whose coach submitted her 3.500 grade point average or higher to the association. Over 4,000 softball student-athletes from throughout the United States reaped the accolade.
Caldwell, a 2013 Academic All- WAC honoree, was a 2013 Second Team All-WAC infielder, averaging .288 with 44 hits, 30 runs and 13 RBI.
A 2013 Academic and First Team All-WAC honoree, Cox is listed on four single-season program lists and has the sixth-most career stolen bases.
The 2013 WAC Pitcher of the Year, NFCA Division I All-Pacific Region Second Team and Academic All-WAC honoree, Pridmore finished the 2012-13 school year with the highest grade point average among San Jose State's student-athletes enrolled in graduate school.
Toy, a redshirt freshman, appeared in 23 games as either a pinch runner or at second base, scoring six runs.
Watt, named to the 2013 Academic All-WAC team, hit .176 with two doubles, four RBI and eight runs scored.
