Women's Gymnastics Adds Two Level 10 Competitors

Nov. 14, 2013

San Jose, Calif. - The San José State University women's gymnastics team will add two level 10 gymnasts and strong bar competitors to its 2014-15 roster, Alisa Bogdan from Las Vegas, Nev., and Mackenzie Douglas from Mesa, Ariz., head coach Wayne Wright announced.

Bogdan and Douglas are the first gymnasts to sign National-Letters-of-Intent for the 2014-15 season.

"These level 10 gymnasts, both of whom have competed at that level for almost two years, are a great start to our recruiting class," Wright said. "They are huge additions and will fill a void left by three great seniors who graduated in May 2013."

Bogdan trains at Gymcats in Henderson, Nev. She earned 15th on bars at the Level 10 Junior Olympic Nationals in Minneapolis, Minn., scoring a 9.400. At the 2013 Region 1 Championships in Phoenix, Ariz., she placed third on vault with a 9.600 score and her 37.750 in the all-around placed her fourth. At the 2013 Nevada State Championships in Reno, Nev., Bogdan finished third on bars, beam and floor, and fourth on vault and in the all-around. She will graduate in 2014 from Foothill High School in Henderson, Nev.

"Alisa is a great student and athlete," Wright said. "She comes from a great gymnastics club where two-time national champion Tasha Schwikert trained, and she will make an immediate impact on our program with her quality bar performances."

Douglas competes for Arizona Dynamics Gymnastics in Chandler, Ariz., where she trained alongside current Spartan Rachel Heinl. In 2013, she placed seventh-or-better in every meet in which she competed. At the 2013 Region 1 Championships, Douglas tied for 11th place on floor, placed 13th on bars and 15th on vault. She earned top-five finishes in all four events at the 2013 Arizona State Championships in Phoenix, Ariz., placing third in the all-around. Douglas will graduate in 2014 from Queen Creek (Ariz.) High School.

"Mackenzie is strong in all four events, but is specifically strong on both bars and vault," said Wright. "She will be a great asset to have competing in the all-around for the team."

San José State gymnastics opens its season at the NorCal Quad, hosted by Sacramento State, against the Hornets, UC Davis and Stanford on January 5, 2014 at 2:00 p.m.
