San José State record: 5-5, 4-3 Mountain West. The Spartans have a two-game losing streak after Nevada defeated San José State, 38-16, on November 16.
Navy record: 6-4. The Midshipmen have their second two-game winning streak of the season following a 42-14 win over South Alabama.

San José State-Navy series: San José State leads the series, 2-0. The Spartans won last year's meeting between these teams, 12-0, in Annapolis. The shutout was the first for the program since 2003 and the first shutout victory on the road since 1988. San José State captured the first meeting between these teams, 27-24, in San José on November 19, 2011. The teams are in year three of a four-season home-and-home series.
San José State and the Academies: The 2013 Navy game is the fifth game for San José State against one of the three Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) national service academies. The Spartans have a 1-1 record against Air Force with a Western Athletic Conference victory coming in 1997, 25-22, against the #24-ranked Falcons. San José State resumes football competition with Air Force in 2015 as part of the Mountain West Conference schedule rotation of inter-divisional play. In 2018, San José State and Army will begin a four-year, home-and-home series.
Winning season still within reach: San José State seeks back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since 1986 and 1987. To achieve this standard, the Spartans can do it by winning their final two regular-season games with Navy and nationally-ranked Fresno State, two teams with winning records, as their opponents.
Facing one of the best running attacks: The San José State defense faces one of its sternest tests of the season when it faces Navy. The Midshipmen rank fifth in the Football Subdivision averaging 311.0 yards per game rushing. In the last two games, the Spartans yielded 174 yards and three touchdowns to San Diego State and Nevada's season-best 311 yards and four touchdowns. In the two games these teams played against each other, Navy rushed for 254 yards on 49 carries in the 27-24 loss in 2011 and 70 yards on 38 attempts in the Spartans' 12-0 shutout win in 2012.
San José State + Navy equals four: In the previous two games between these teams, there were four penalties accessed in each contest. Navy was not assessed a penalty in the 2012 game. The Midshipmen enter this year's game as the least penalized team in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) at 3.00 penalties per game.
Keith Smithcontinues as a national leader: Linebacker Keith Smith is the national leader in total tackles per game in games played through November 16 with a 13.7 per game average. Smith recorded 20 tackles against Utah State. He was credited with a career-high 21 stops in the September 21 game at Minnesota.
Lopez adds to San José State records: Austin Lopez tied a San José State single-game, tied a school single-season and set a Spartans' single-season record in the November 16 game at Nevada. The sophomore from Euless, Texas made field goals of 47, 44 and 50 yards in the first half.
He became the second San José State player to kick three field goals of 40 or more yards in a game.
His 50-yarder was his second of 50 or more yards in 2013 tying him with Tony Brown for most field goals (2) of 50 or more yards in a season. At Hawai'i, Lopez kicked a career-long 51 yard yard field goal.
The three field goals in the Nevada game gave him 19 for the season, one more than the previous San José State single-season record of 18 set by Jens Alvernik in 2011. Lopez came into the season with five different San José State kick-scoring related records from his 2012 freshman season.
