Nov. 19, 2013

San Jose, Calif. ----- Jeff Leightman, head coach of the San Jose Staté University women's soccer program, has stepped down effective immediately. Gene Bleymaier, San José State's director of athletics, accepted the resignation.

"We want to thank Jeff for his service to San Jose State University, Spartan athletics and our student-athletes and wish him well in his future professional endeavors," Bleymaier said.

Leightman completed six seasons as the Spartans' head coach with an overall record of 43-61-12. This season, San José State finished with a 3-14-1 win-loss record and was 10th in the Mountain West Conference standings.

During Leightman's San José State coaching tenure, the Spartans won the 2009 and 2010 Western Athletic Conference (WAC) regular season championships.

"I want to thank San José State University and the athletics department for the last six years," Leightman said. "This has been a wonderful place to work. We've had some ups and downs, but I am excited about the future for the Spartans and San Jose will always have a special place in my heart."

Prior to joining San José State, Leightman was the head coach at Binghamton (N.Y.) University for 10 seasons.

Bleymaier announced a search for San José State's next women's soccer head coach is underway.
