San Jose, Calif. - San Jose State quarterback David Fales threw for 440 yards and five touchdowns, but Naval Academy quarterback Keenan Reynolds ran for an NCAA-record seven rushing touchdowns as the Midshipmen defeated the Spartans 58-52 in three overtimes on Friday night in Spartan Stadium.

Fales led the Spartans to a touchdown on the final play of regulation, a two-yard pass to Kyle Nunn, and with a two-point conversion to Chandler Jones, the game went to overtime at 38-38. Each team scored touchdowns on their first two overtime possessions.

With the Spartans facing a third and goal from the three-yard line in the third overtime period, Fales threw a pass to the back of the end zone that was intercepted by Navy's Parrish Gaines. It took Navy just one play, a Reynolds 25-yard touchdown dash around the left side for the winning score.

Fales connected with eight receivers led by Thomas Tucker who had nine catches for 107 yards and a touchdown. Chandler Jones made seven grabs for 101 yards and a touchdown and Kyle Nunn had two touchdowns and 51 yards.

Tucker totaled 278 all-purpose yards with 62 on the ground and a touchdown and 109 yards in kick returns.

Navy rushed for 458 yards on 62 carries, 240 by Reynolds on 36 carries. He also completed 4-of-6 for 46 yards and a touchdown.

San José State led at the half 16-10, but the teams would go on to score touchdowns on 12 of the next 16 possessions.

Navy found the endzone on its first two possessions of the second half, a three-yards run by Reynolds and a three-yard pass to Darius Staten for a 24-16 lead. The Spartans responded with a seven-play, 77-yard scoring drive capped by a 23-yard Fales to Jones touchdown. The Spartans two-point conversion failed and the score was 24-22.

The Spartans forced a punt on Navy's next possession and then marched 88-yards down the field and scored on a four-yard pass from Fales to Tyler Winston. Fales ran in the two-point conversion and the Spartans were back on top 30-24.

Navy scored on its next possession to go back in from 31-30 and increased its lead to 38-30 with just 2:38 to play. Fales then led the team the game-tying score as time expired in regulation.

The Spartans wrap up the regular season next Friday hosting Fresno State at 12:30 p.m. in Spartan Stadium.
