Portland, Ore.-Rashad Muhammad scored a season-best 23 points, but a hot-shooting Portland team defeated San José State, 86-69, Wednesday night in a non-conference game at the Chiles Center.
Muhammad was 7-for-11 from the field including 4-for-5 from three-point range and a perfect 5-of-5 from the free throw line. He also had three rebounds in 33 minutes played.
Two other Spartans scored in double figures. Jaleel Williams scored 11 points and grabbed three rebounds. Jalen James added 10 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field and led the Spartans in rebounding with eight.
Portland (4-3) shot 53.2 percent from the field for the game including 62.5 percent in the second half (20-32). The Pilots used a 14-4 run in the middle of the second half to open the game and take a 66-47 lead with 8:21 left in the game and led by as many as 21 in the game.
The Spartans (2-5) committed 14 turnovers in the loss and shot 37.3 percent from the field.
