Albuquerque, N.M. - The San José State University women's volleyball team hit a season-low .000 and were swept by the New Mexico Lobos, 3-0 (25-10, 25-14, 25-17), in a Mountain West match on Wednesday, November 27.
"It was disappointing to see the way we came out," said head coach Oscar Crespo. "The third set was more competitive but it was too much for us to make up in such a short amount of time."
Sarah Griest led the Spartans with a .400 hitting percentage and three service aces, while Tyanna Roy had a team-best six kills. Said Crespo, "They both stayed focus throughout the match and had good individual efforts tonight."
The Spartans (8-22, 5-14 MW) fell by a 25-10 margin in the first set, hitting -.125 to the Lobos' (24-7, 14-6 MW) .522. San José State improved in the second set, posting an even .000 hitting percentage.
In the third set, the Spartans traded points with the Lobos, seeing six score ties and two lead changes. San José State hit .111 but a five-point run to end the set gave New Mexico the three-set sweep.
Errors plagued the Spartans, as they posted a three-set season high 23. They were also out-blocked by the Lobos, 9-5.
San José State travels to Air Force on Friday, November 29 for a 6:00 p.m. (MT) match. "We have one more opportunity to get our act together," Crespo said. "We're on the road but I'm optimistic that they can put a unified effort to go after Air Force."
