San José, Calif.--Devante Wilson led San José State with 18 points, but a six-minute Spartan scoring drought in the second half gave Nevada a 62-50 win over the Spartans Wednesday night in a Mountain West game at The Event Center.
The six-minute Spartan scoring drought in the second half allowed Nevada to take the lead for good. San José State led 35-31 with 15:57 left in the game before going cold from the field over the next six minutes. The team took just two shots during that time before Chris Cunningham made a shot at the 9:57 mark as the team trailed 41-37.
One of the top three-point shooting teams in the country, San José State was held to just 5-of-20 from behind the arc. All four of Wilson's made baskets came from behind the three-point line as he went 4-for-7. The only other Spartan to make a three-pointer was D.J. Brown who was 1-for-2 and scored five points in the game.
Playing the program's first Mountain West game, San José State came out in the first half and battled with the Wolf Pack. The lead changed five times, and there were five tied scores in the half. San José State took a 26-25 lead into the locker room at halftime.
San José State also held Nevada's Deonte Burton, the conference's leading scorer, to 18 points, four below his average. AJ West added 15 points for the Wolf Pack.
Wilson led the Spartans with 18 points and was a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line. Cunningham added 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds before fouling out after 34 minutes of action. Brown dished out five assists to go with his five points.
The loss ended San José State's four-game winning streak and its perfect record at home this season. The Spartans were 4-0 in the month of December.
San José State now plays its first Mountain West road game this Saturday at Utah State. The game tips at 7 p.m. Mountain/6 p.m. Pacific. Fans can listen live on KLIV 1590 AM or watch on http://www.themw.com/#!/watch-live.
