With a 1-0 record heading into the weekend's Bruin Invitational on the UCLA campus, San Jose State University is tied with Princeton for eighth in the first Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) national poll.
The Spartans moved up three spots from their 11th place finish in the final 2013 poll.
Six of the seven Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) teams are ranked in the top-20 led by defending NCAA Tournament champion University of Southern California. Stanford, UCLA, California and Arizona State round out the top five teams.
UC Irvine and Hawaii are the next two teams ahead of the Spartans.
San Jose State takes on #16-Loyola Marymount and unranked Cal Baptist and Concordia at the Bruin Invitational, January 18 & 19, at the Spieker Aquatic Complex on the UCLA campus.
