Laramie, Wyo.-D.J. Brown scored a season-high 18 points, but San José State got just four points from the bench as the Spartans fell 67-56 at Wyoming Saturday afternoon in a Mountain West game.

Brown was one of three Spartans to score in double-figures. He was 6-for-12 from the floor including 4-for-8 from three-point range. Brown added three assists and two rebounds in 31 minutes of action.

Devante Wilson added 13 points as he was 4-for-8 from the field including 3-for-6 from three-point range. Chris Cunningham scored 10 points on 5-of-9 shooting. He, along with Rashad Muhammad and Isaac Thornton, each grabbed six rebounds to lead San José State.

The Spartan bench averages about 30 points per game, but Saturday, they were held to just four points, a two made free throws by Muhammad and a late basket by Matt Pollard.

San José State committed just 11 turnovers in the game, but eight came in the first half that led to 13 Wyoming points. The Spartans got just two points off of nine Wyoming turnovers.

"Our turnovers are hurting us," said Spartan head coach Dave Wojcik. "They are allowing our opponents to get easy baskets on the other end. It is a point of emphasis for us to work on and get better."

The Spartans outrebounded the Cowboys, 32-29, including 12 offensive rebounds.

Down 35-26 at halftime, the Spartans came out of the locker room the second half and cut the Wyoming lead to 35-34 on a Cunningham basket and back-to-back Brown three-pointers. Wyoming then used an 8-0 run to stretch the lead back out to nine at 43-34 with 15:06 left.

"Our guys fought today," said Wojcik. "We outrebounded them and got offensive rebounds. We now have to learn how to make the open looks we have at the basket early in the game. That changes how teams will play us defensively."

San José State returns to The Event Center this Wednesday, January 22, to face #10/11 San Diego State at 7 p.m. Tickets are available by calling the Spartan Ticket Office at (408) 924-SJTX, online at Ticketmaster.com or at any Ticketmaster Outlet.
