Women's Gymnastics Scores Above-194 For Second-Straight Meet

Seattle, Wash. - The San Jose State University women's gymnastics team saw several gymnasts set career-highs as the Spartans went above-194 for the second-straight meet at No. 20 Washington with Arizona State and UC Davis on Saturday.

The Spartans, who earned a 2014-high 194.625, (3-5) finished third behind Washington (195.900) and Arizona State (194.825), and ahead of UC Davis (191.850).

The Spartans opened the meet with a low-scoring rotation on beam. Bekah Gher and Cami Guyer earned matching team-high 9.725 scores, 0.10 lower than the previous 2014 team-best individual score (9.825 by Julia Greer at Arizona State, Jan. 11). In her first 2014 appearance on the apparatus, Marissa Unpingco recorded a 9.675. Alyssa Kaschak added a 9.550 and Julia Greer scored a 9.475.

The tide began to turn for San Jose State in its second rotation, on floor. Greer's third-consecutive 9.850 was the team's best score and the meet's second-highest score. Guyer scored a career-best 9.800, while Alyssa Montalban (9.750) and Kiley Field (9.725) recorded season-high scores. Gher added a 9.675. A season-best, San Jose State earned a 48.800.

The Spartans' momentum continued on vault, where career-high scores were abound. Gher won the event with a 9.900, the second-highest vault score in San Jose State history. Freshman Kiana Gordon's 9.825 marked her highest score as a collegiate, and Guyer matched her career-best 9.800 on the apparatus. Greer added a 9.700 and Montalban earned a season-best 9.675. The Spartans' 48.900 was the fifth-highest vault score in program history.

San Jose State continued its momentum in its final rotation, on bars, with each gymnast scoring a 9.625 or higher. Harrison led off for the Spartans with a 9.800, her best score in the event since 2012. Guyer scored a team- and career-best 9.825 and freshman Rachel Heinl earned a season-high 9.775. Gher added a 9.700 and Unpingco scored a 9.675. The Spartans' 48.775 team score was its highest this season.

Both Spartans who competed in the all-around, Gher and Guyer, earned above a 39.000. Guyer's career-best 39.150 placed her second in the meet and Gher's season-best 39.000 was good enough for third.

The Spartans head to UC Davis on Sunday, January 25, at 1:00 p.m., when they compete against the Aggies, Stanford and Utah State.
