San Jose, Calif. - Cami Guyer, a junior on the San José State women's gymnastics team, was named the MPSF Gymnast of the Week for Jan. 13 - 19. This is the first weekly conference honor of her career.
Guyer placed second in the all-around at No. 20 Washington with Arizona State and UC Davis on Jan. 18. Against two programs that opened the season in the top-25, she scored a career-high 39.100 and matched or tied her career-highs on vault (9.800), bars (9.825) and floor (9.800). Guyer has placed in the top-three in the all-around at every meet this season, all of which were against top-25 programs.
"At the meet, my body felt great and I was amped up," Guyer said of her career performance. "After I went 9.800 on floor, I felt confident going into the next two events (vault and bars), which are my best events. This year, I have figured out what I need to do for certain events, which has helped me relaxed and led to better performances."
The Spartans travel to UC Davis on Sunday, Jan. 26, for a 1:00 p.m. meet against the Aggies, No. 12 Stanford and Utah State.
