San Diego, Calif. - The San Jose State women's basketball team suffered scoring droughts of 10-to-0 to open the first half and 11-to-0 start the second half and lost 88-65 to the San Diego State Aztecs in Mountain West Conference action on Wednesday night in Viejas Arena.

"We have to play with an urgency on the road," said head coach Jamie Craighead. "We play with intensity at home, but until we put out the same effort on the road we will continue to be inconsistent. Good teams don't allow this to happen to them."

The Spartans launched a single-game record 42 3-pointers in the game, knocking down 11 of them. Rebecca Woodberry went 5-for-13 from behind the arc and moved into seventh place on the San Jose State single-season 3-point list. She has made 53 so far this year and is two behind Natalie White for sixth place. Woodberry finished with a team-high 21 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Ta'Rea Cunnigan added 20 points.

The Spartans lost the battle on the boards 63-44, were outscored 33-to-12 in second chance points as well as 50-to-12 in points in the paint. Two Aztecs were in double digits in rebounds led by Cierra Warren who pulled down 14, including nine on the offensive glass. Khristina Hunter added 13 boards. San Jose State was led by Riana Byrd's 13 rebounds.

"We knew that with their size, (the Aztecs started a front line of players who were 6-1, 6-1 & 6-4) it would be critical that we box out and not allow them to take advantage of us on the glass," said Craighead. "Unfortunately, our bigs got in foul trouble. That sent them to the bench and they had to curb couldn't be as aggressive."

San Jose State never led and trailed by as many as 17 in the first half, 35-18 with 2:33 to go before intermission. Classye James, who finished with nine points, scored six of them in the final two minutes of the half as the teams went to the locker rooms with SDSU up 37-25. Despite shooting just 18 percent in the first 20 minutes, San José State was still in striking distance in the second half.

Those hopes were dashed in the opening three minutes of the second half. San Diego State ran off 11 straight points, led by four of Warren's game high 31 points. The Aztecs built its largest lead, 29 points with 9:27 to play, and then cruised to the 23-point victory.

In addition to Warren, three other San Diego State players were in double figures. Ariell Bostick had 16, Deajanae Scurry scored 13 and Deidra Smith added 10.

The Spartans return to action on Saturday, January 25 on Walt McPherson Court. Tip off against the Boise State Broncos in The Event Center is set for 2:00 p.m.
