Final Stats

San Jose, Calif. - The Boise State Broncos equaled an Event Center record hitting 15 3-pointers, and shot 50 percent from long range, in a 90-69 win over the San José State women's basketball team on Saturday afternoon.

The Broncos' (10-8, 5-2 MW) sank 7-of-13 three in the first 20 minutes. Yaiza Rodriguez and Brooke Pahukoa were each 3-for-3 from long range in the first half, 4-for-4 in the game, and led their team with 16 points apiece. With less than five minutes to play in the game Boise State was 15-for-25 from distance, 60 percent, but missed their last five attempts finishing 15-for-30 for the game.

On top of hot shooting from downtown, Boise State was an efficient 19-for-41, 46 percent, inside the arc. Lexie Der and Miquelle Askew finished with 15 points each on 7-of-13 and 6-of-12 shooting, respectively.

San José State (8-11, 2-6 MW) outrebounded the Broncos 40-to-37, led by Riana Byrd's 12 boards. She added 13 points for her fifth double double of the year. It is her 11th double figure rebounding effort this season and her fourth in a row.

The Spartans, after struggling from the free throw line in their last game, made a season-high 31 free throws on 35 attempts. Byrd was 9-of-11 and Classye James went 9-of-10 from the stripe. Ta'Rea Cunnigan, who was 5-of-6 from the line, led the Spartans with 16 points and Jasmine Smith, 4-of-4 on free throws, added 10 points.

San José State had a 12-5 lead after a Rebecca Woodberry 3-pointer with 16:46 to play in the first half. But just over five minutes later, the Broncos completed a 21-to-4 run and had a 26-16 lead. They hit four threes led by Rodriguez's back-to-back makes in the run.

Britta Hall's 3-pointer cut the deficit to seven, 26-19, on the next possession, but the Spartans would get no closer in the half and went to the locker room down 45-35.

Cunnigan made a layup to open the second half and trimmed the Broncos' lead to eight, 45-37, but Boise State then outscored San José State 12-2, over a four-minute span, and never looked back. Twice they build the lead to 30 points, the last coming at 85-55 with 5:20 to play.

The Spartans closed the lead 21, in part by sinking 11-of-12 free throws down the stretch, before falling 90-69.

San José State will be at the UNLV Rebels on Wednesday, January 29. Tip off in the Cox Pavilion is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
