Gymnastics Earns Seventh-Best Team Score In School History

Davis, Calif. - The San Jose State University women's gymnastics team earned the seventh-best team score in program history, a 195.400, at UC Davis with Stanford and Utah State on Sunday.

The Spartans (4-8) finished third with a 195.400, the program's seventh-highest team score. No. 12 Stanford won the meet with a 197.275. UC Davis finished second, going 195.875 and Utah State earned a 194.400 for fourth place.

The Spartans opened the quad meet on bars with six solid routines. Cami Guyer scored a team-best 9.775 and Bekah Gher earned a 9.750. Marissa Unpingco, Cassandra Harrison and Rachel Heinl earned 9.675 scores.

Marissa Unpingco got things going for the Spartans in a big way on beam. She lead off the rotation with a career-high 9.875, and set the stage for things to come, as each beam performer earned a 9.625 or higher. Bekah Gher and Cami Guyer scored season-bests, going 9.775 and 9.750 respectively, while Alyssa Kaschak added a 9.675.

But anchor Julia Greer's performance stole the show; she earned a career-high 9.900 for second place in the meet and tied the school's record. The Spartans' 48.975 was the seventh-best beam score in program history.

San Jose State caught fire on floor with five of six gymnasts scoring a 9.750 or higher and earned its best team score on the season on the apparatus. For the third time this season, Greer earned the Spartans' highest score with a 9.875. The performance gave her a tie for the meet's floor title. Harrison's 9.850, a season-best, was the meet's third-best score. Kiley Field also scored a season-high, earning a 9.775. Guyer also scored a 9.775. Alyssa Montalban matched her 2014-best with a 9.750.

The Spartans went 49.025, their highest floor score this season.

In the Spartans' closing rotation on vault, Gher led the team with a 9.850. Montalban, who opened the rotation, scored a 9.775, while Guyer and Gordon added 9.750 scores. Harrison earned a 9.725. The Spartans' 48.850 team score was the eighth-highest in school history.

For the fourth-consecutive meet this season, Guyer placed in the top-3 in the all-around, scoring a 39.050 for third place. Gher earned a 38.450.

Following a bye next week, San Jose State hosts UC Davis for its first meet in the Event Center this season on Friday, February 7 at 7:00 p.m.
