"They outplayed us. They made plays and they made shots. That's what they do. They are shot-makers. We didn't do a good job of defending them," said San José State head coach Dave Wojcik, whose team made just 28.8 percent of its field goal attempts. UNLV shot 44.7 percent from the field and out-rebounded the Spartans, 40-31.

"They gave us problems shooting the ball tonight. They can recover if they are late and they can recover to your shot."

Rashad Muhammad added 13 points for the Spartans. The Spartans' leading scorer at 14.8 points a game was in double-figure scoring for the first time in four games.

"At the end of the day, we didn't get as many stops as we should have. We have to work harder and get better. We can't focus on bad plays. We have to get back at it," said Williams who also was San José State leading rebounder with nine.

San José State heads to the University of New Mexico for a February 1 game seeking its first conference win.
