Tennis Falls To The University of San Francisco

San Francisco, Calif. --- Three singles matches went into super tiebreakers, but the San José State University women's tennis team fell short in a close 4-3 dual match loss to the University of San Francisco.

Juniors Julianna Bacelar and Jessica Willett and freshman Gaelle Rey each went three sets in their singles matches.

Bacelar scored the first point for the Spartans (2-8) after defeating Sophia Homberg of USF, 7-6 (5), 0-6, 6-2.

Willett's match went into a third set after she won her first set 6-3 against USF's Milicia Hadzi-Tanovic. After falling in the second set, Willett was able to fight back defeating Hadzi-Tanovic, 6-3, 1-6, 6-2.

Senior Sabastiani Leon Chao scored the final point for San José State after topping Marina Nikolic in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. With this win, Leon Chao has 118 career wins and tied with Ashley Tavita at second place on the Spartans' 100-career win list.

The Spartans are back at home as they host Cal Poly on Saturday, February 15. The match begins at 11:00 a.m. (PT) at the Spartan Tennis Complex.

USF improved to 6-2 on the season with the win.
