Stanford, Calif. -- Rachelle Reali shot just her second under-par round of her Spartan career, and the San José State women's golf team shot a season-low 292 Saturday afternoon and are third after the first round of the Peg Barnard Invitational at the Stanford Golf Course.

Reali started the spring season by shooting a one-under 70 Saturday, her first under-par round of the season and the first since she shot a 71 last year at the Mountain View Collegiate. She is tied with four others for third place individually. Reali started the round with birdies on three of her first seven holes (#7, 9, 12) and was three-under par after her first 10 holes.

Alexandra Kristofersson tied her lowest round of the year with a 73 and is tied for 13th. She started the round strong with birdies on three of her first seven holes as well (#7, 8, 12).

Megan Osland started her round with a birdie on #7, and made 13 pars to finish with a 74, tying for 17th place. Stephanie Gibri tied her career best with a 75 and made four birdies on her round as she is tied for 26th. My Leander shot a 78 with two birdies and is tied for 49th to round out the Spartan team.

"We had a great start to our round with four birdies on hole 7," said Spartan head coach John Dormann. "I am happy to see Rachelle and Alex get off to hot starts. This experience will benefit them in the future."

San José State finished the day in third place, one shot away from second-place UC Davis and five shots from leader Stanford. The Spartans also have a three-stroke lead over fourth-place Denver.

"We need to be persistent and consistent tomorrow. This is a strong field, and we cannot let up in the final round."

Final round action begins Sunday with a 9 a.m. shot gun start.
