San Jose State 9th After 1st Day Of Mountain West Women's Swimming Championships

San Antonio, Texas--- The San José State University women's University women's swimming team completed the first day of the 2014 Mountain West Conference Championships in ninth with a score of 54 points after three events.

The 200 medley relay team of Michaela McLean, Darcie Anderson, Ashlyn Acosta, and Alysha Bush started the day strong after placing fifth in 1:39.62 and securing the #2 spot on the San José State All-Time Best Marks list.

"We are very happy with our first night of competition especially with the 200 (medley) relay," said San José State head coach Sage Hopkins. "We were nearly a second faster than were we were last year and barely missed a school record. I am really looking forward to tomorrow's performance."

In the 800 freestyle relay, senior Taylor Curado teamed up with Erika Harvey, Taylor Solorio, and Riley Spitser, finishing sixth with a time of 7:19.12. Curado's 200 free split of 1:48.31 is her personal best and is also the third fastest 200 free split in San José State history.

"Taylor had a tremendous performance tonight, placing her among the most elite 200 freestylers in school history." concluded Hopkins.

The Mountain West Women's Swimming and Diving Championships continue Thursday, February 20 with the 200 yard freestyle relay, 3-meter springboard, 500 yard freestyle, 200 IM, and the 50 yard freestyle. Preliminary rounds begins at 9:30 a.m. (PT) followed by the finals starting at 4:30 p.m. (PT).
