Feb. 2, 2014

Stanford, Calif.----- For the second time in two days, a late fourth-quarter opponent goal was the difference as San Jose State University finished sixth at the Stanford Invitational women's water polo tournament.

"We can play with the top teams. Now we have to get a win (against them)," interim head coach Johnny Begasaid after the Hawaii match in which San Jose State trailed by three in the first half. To open the tournament, #4-ranked Cal edged the Spartans, 9-8, on a game-winning goal with less than 2:00 remaining in regulation time.

"We are getting better as a team. We are coming together (better) with each match. Now we have to execute to get those one-goal wins."
