Spitser Breaks School Record At The Mountain West Championships

San Antonio, Texas --- A school record performance by Riley Spitser in the 500 free helped the San José State women's swimming team move into eighth place at the Mountain West Conference Women's Swimming and Diving Championships.

A sophomore from San Diego, Calif., Spitser won the consolation final and finished ninth in the 500 free with a time of 4:47.85, breaking her own previous school record of 4:50.23.

"We had a strong finals evening," said head coach Sage Hopkins about his team's performance. "Most notably Riley shattering the school record in the 500 free."

Senior Erika Harvey had the best finish overall for the Spartans placing eighth in the 50 free with a final time of 23.12.

"We are really looking forward to the next two days as they are our strongest," concluded Hopkins.

The Mountain West Conference Championships continue Friday, February 21 as the Spartans compete in the 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, and the 100 back. Preliminary rounds begin at 11:30 a.m. (CT)/9:30 a.m. (PT) and finals begin at 6:30 p.m. (CT)/4:30 p.m. (PT).
