San Antonio, Texas----- San Jose State University sophomore Riley Spitserset two more school distance freestyle records highlighting the Spartans' final day at the 2014 Mountain West Conference women's swimming and diving championships.

Swimming in the 1650 freestyle, Spitser, from San Diego, finished with a 16:48.87 time for tenth place and broke the San Jose State record of 16:51.02 set by Elin Carlsson at the 1999 Western Athletic Conference championships. Spitser swam her first 1000 yards of the race in 10:09.77, 0.33 seconds faster than Carlsson's time of 10:10.10 in a 1996 triple dual meet.

"Riley broke our two oldest school records, the 1650 and 1000 free," said San Jose State University women's swimming head coach Sage Hopkins. For Spitser, she finished the Mountain West Championships establishing new school records in the 200, 500, 1,000 and 1,650 freestyles.

"I was pleased with our (overall) performance today. We had outstanding performances from Riley, Darcie Anderson in the 200 breaststroke, Ashlyn Acosta in the 200 fly and Alysha Bushin the 100 free."

Anderson was San Jose State's top finisher on the final night of the championships with a fifth in the 200 breast. Acosta, the Spartans school record holder in the 100 and 200 fly, was sixth in the 200 fly. Bush, a freshman, was ninth in the 100 free.

After winning the 2012 and 2013 Western Athletic Conference Championships, the Spartans finished eighth in their first Mountain West Championships meet.

Over the four days of Mountain West competition, Anderson in the 100 breast, Michaela McLean in the 100 back and Taylor Curado in the 100 fly gave the Spartans three more NCAA Championships "B" standard marks. Prior to the meet, Anderson exceeded the "B" standard in the 200 breast; Acosta in the 100 fly; and Bush in the 100 free. Senior Erika Harveymet the "B" standard in the 50 free at the Arena Invitational last November.

"We're very motivated to up the ladder in the Mountain West. We're in a similar position when I (first) came to San Jose State (in 2005). We were sixth in our first year in the WAC. We realize this is a multi-year task. The Mountain West is one of the better conferences for women's swimming and we are excited to be a part of it."
