Bene Benwikere Turns In One Of The Top DB Vertical Leaps At NFL Combine

Indianapolis, Ind.----- Former San Jose State University two-time first-team all-conference defensive back Bené Benwikerehad three top-20 marks among the 59 defensive backs invited to the 2014 National Football League (NFL) Combine at Lucas Oil Stadium.

The Serra High of Gardena product had the second-best vertical leap among the cornerbacks and safeties with a jump of 40.5 inches. Only Stanley Jean-Baptiste of Nebraska went higher at 41.5 inches.

Benwikere (click here for NFL Combine profile) turned in the 15th best clocking in the 3-cone drill that tests quickness while making turns with his 6.94 reading and had the 17th longest long jump at 10-feet-2.

One of four to share the University's career interception record of 14, the three-year starter ran a 4.63 40-yard dash, bench pressed 225 pounds 10 times and ran the 20-yard shuttle that tests explosiveness and agility in 4.38 seconds.

Benwikere was one of two San Jose State football players to accept an invitation to the 2014 NFL Combine. Two days earlier, quarterback David Fales became the first San Jose State signal caller since 2008 to participate in NFL Combine activities.
